ИДИОМЫ В АНГЛИЙСКОМ ЯЗЫКЕ

   Конечно, идиом в английском языке бесчисленное множество,  знать их необходимо, прежде всего, чтобы сделать свою речь более естественной и живой. Совсем не обязательно зазубривать их тысячами, можно начать с нескольких. Ниже список моих любимых идиом, который будет постоянно пополняться.

On the horns of dilemma = in a very tricky situation

В затруднительном положении

I’m expected to produce the name of our team leader tomorrow; I just can’t choose between Brown or Thompson – I’m on the horns of dilemma.

To blow hot and cold = he constantly keeps changing his mind.

Семь пятниц на неделе. Колебаться. Постоянно менять точку зрения

One day my boss promises me a rise and the next day he changes his mind – he keeps blowing hot and cold.

To be three sheets to the wind = to be very drunk

Вдрызг пьяный

Having consumed the whole bottle of wine, by the time he rose to make a speech he was already three sheets to the wind.

Pigs might fly! = it’s highly unlikely!

После дождичка в четверг

When the fortune teller told me that I would definitely win a million pounds on the lottery I thought – oh yes, and pigs might fly!
